Planet Zoo 2 Announced and Arriving This October
Frontier has announced Planet Zoo 2, launching this October with highly requested features including aquariums with marine life and aviaries for birds, addressing major community requests from the original game.
It feels a bit like it happened yesterday, but five and a half years ago the first Planet Zoo launched with one clear goal - to be the best spiritual successor to the original Zoo Tycoon. I'd say the game pretty much succeeded in meeting the big challenge it set for itself, as developer Frontier made clever use of many systems and features it developed for its theme park management game series, Planet Coaster, and adapted them for a zoo management game. Over the weekend we got the announcement of a new game for Planet Zoo that will arrive this coming October.
The biggest news with Planet Zoo 2 compared to the first is the additional animal types the game will now support. One of the biggest complaints from players of the first game was that there was no option to raise marine animals or birds, and the game was limited to land animals only. Planet Zoo 2 comes to solve exactly that problem with the addition of the ability to create aquariums full of fish, sharks, and sea turtles. But not only that - in addition to regular land animal enclosures, we'll now be able to create habitats designed for birds, with the trailer showing us a demonstration of toucans flying near visitors. After Planet Coaster 2 added many water-related mechanics like slides and pools, the addition of aquariums to Planet Zoo 2 was relatively easy and even necessary. For now, that's all the information revealed about Planet Zoo 2, but if we're being honest, what was shown answers most of what the player community requested, and additional details and likely gameplay from the game will be revealed during the gaming events taking place next week.
Planet Zoo 2 will launch on October 23rd for PC and current-gen consoles.
